Q: Is my child too young for music lessons?

A: Simply put, no. I have taught students as young as five and as old as seventy five. The sooner a child begins their relationship with music, the easier it will come later on.

Q: Should I start with an electric or acoustic guitar?

A: Nowadays, it’s all a matter of preference.

Traditionally, acoustic guitar has been recommended for beginners. It is larger and has heavier strings make it more physically demanding, so the switch to electric will be easier. Also, in the past the electric guitar with its amplifier and cables was a larger financial investment.

Today, the price of electric guitar bundles have come down and put them in the same range as acoustic guitars. Ultimately, a student is more likely to excel playing the instrument that they want to play.

Q: How much do I need to spend in my first instrument?

A: With musical instruments, you really get what you pay for. A high quality instrument will be easier to play, sound better and should last a lifetime while a poorly-made one will hinder development and ultimately fall apart.

That doesn’t mean that everyone should go out and buy a $3,000 Bach Stradivarius trumpet or Gibson Les Paul guitar. There are many high quality student model and used instruments available for a few hundred dollars.

With so many cheaply made instruments on the market, trust name brands, ask questions from your local dealer, and try the instrument before you buy it.
